This program remove the Steam Internet connection requirement from your copy of Half Life 2. It creates a new local account called /User that allows you to run the game offline. It works. No viruses, spamware, dialers or crapware detected. You can play the game offline immediately after running this patch but I recommend the following additional steps, just in case: After you run this program, I recommend going to your SteamApps directory and moving the /User subdirectory to another location on your hard drive (like C:\Games\HalfLife2) and copy the .gcf files to the same directory. (So your HalfLife2 directory should contain the .gcf files and /User should be a subdirectory.) Update your Half-Life 2 desktop shortcut properties to point to the hl2.exe file in your new directory. For example, the shortcut should point to something like "C:\Games\HalfLife2\User\Half-Life 2\hl2.exe" -steamlocal and the target directory should be "C:\Games\HalfLife2\User\Half-Life 2\". Give your desktop shortcut a unique name like 'Half Life 2 Local' just in case (for some reason) you want to use Steam to make a new desktop shortcut. I had no problems logging onto Steam after applying this patch, but I recommend moving the /User directory to another location on your hard drive as described above. Valve may release a new Steam client in the future that looks for /User at startup and rummages though it,looking for hacked files.)
